Who Is Filming You?
If you are reading this as a client of ICC, you may be familiar with the following scenario, because it’s one of our favourites. Imagine you are being followed around your offices by a film crew (think reality TV, no holds barred access….) and they document everything you do and say for the next month. Would you act / talk / react differently due to the presence of the cameras, or would you carry on as normal?
Now replace that film crew with your team members: they’re watching how you talk to others, learning how you react and respond to external events and influences, reading your mood, and assessing how you tackle challenges all the time. It’s often uncomfortable to think about it, but as leaders we must acknowledge that we are always in the spotlight, and our behaviours will be observed and /or followed by those around us.
This brings us directly onto the subject of discipline and a thought-provoking post that we noticed from Brad Stulberg:

Which words do you think we want to highlight from Brad’s post? You might have guessed it… “whether anyone’s watching or not”
It doesn’t matter if we are talking about discipline, empathy, forward planning, competing, communicating, goals or anything else, the most important thing to remember is to step up to the mark and commit to our actions, whether anyone is watching or not.
We shouldn’t need a film crew to incentivise us to keep showing up and achieve our goals. But if you need support, let us know!
